ASBURY PARK: SPRINGSTEEN IN SURPRISE PERFORMANCE

Bruce Springsteen made an unexpected appearance at the Stone Pony nightclub on Saturday night, taking part in a benefit for the Parkinson's Disease Foundation. He joined Garland Jeffreys, Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers, Soozie Tyrell, and, at concert's end, the actor Michael J. Fox, who has Parkinson's. When Mr. Grushecky suggested they do "Murder Incorporated," one of Mr. Springsteen's signature songs, the Boss had a problem. "I don't know the words," he said. Mr. Grushecky responded, "It's O.K., I've written them down." A stagehand put a sheet of paper on the stage, but Mr. Springsteen said, "It's too far away." Two fans grabbed the sheet and held it up for him.
